Learn How To Write An Effective Essay!

The essay section of the SAT and ACT tests can be scary. There's no multiple choice bubble to guide you, no one to tell you if your opinion is valid, no software to proofread or spellcheck your work, no single right answer.

«« But students can stack the odds in their favor. »»

I've been working with students individually since shortly after the essay section was introduced, teaching them the critical thinking and writing skills that they need to succeed on this portion of the test.

«« And now, I've put it all together in a
3-hour SAT/ACT Critical Writing Workshop.

Individual tutoring can cost as much as $120 per hour. Not many of us can afford the multiple hours of tutoring time it would take to make a difference in a student's critical writing skills, but there's still something you can do to help yourself or your child.

My Workshop teaches:

  • The basics of critical thinking
  • How to take a position on the issue
  • What questions to ask yourself
  • How to choose supporting evidence
  • How to organize these elements into an effective essay

«« The SAT/ACT Critical Writing Workshop fills in the gap between minimum high school requirements and college expectations. »»

I've spent hundreds of hours analyzing practice essays and perfecting the advice I give students on how to improve their scores. No two students are alike, but all have benefited from my suggestions on how to improve the way they think about addressing the issues presented.

For only $225, you can register for one of the Workshops being offered this academic year. Click here to see the schedule and download the registration form. Class size is limited to 10 students in order to ensure a maximized learning experience. Students learn how to approach the essay question logically and with a system that helps them to most effectively convey their viewpoint to the readers. We learn the system, practice applying it as a class, and then practice individually in a test-like, timed situation at the end of the workshop.

And what's even better, students will receive a full-length critique of their final essays by email shortly after the test. I score the essay and then write a detailed analysis—points of weakness, areas of strength and instructions on how to improve their writing further. Click here to see a sample critique.

Students gain the confidence they need to keep a clear head and calm heart when the test monitor says "you may begin" and the pressure is on.
